As a tireless servant of God and a contagious advocate and supporter of mission efforts throughout the world, Annie Armstrong led women to unite in mission endeavors that ultimately led to the formation of Woman’s Missionary Union, for which she served as the first corresponding secretary.

Annie believed in Christ with all her heart, but it was her hands that expressed that belief in tangible ways. She spent a great amount of time typing and handwriting letters in support of missions. Many of these letters were quite lengthy and all were filled with conviction that more could and should be done in our mission efforts. In 1893 alone, she wrote almost 18,000 letters! Annie also never hesitated to use her hands to reach out to hug a child or distribute food and clothing and the Word of God to those in need. Her hands held her own Bible as she studied to know how best to share Gods love with others. And, most important, Annie was a woman of prayer, folding her hands in prayer to intercede for the missionaries and for those they were helping discover Christ.

Annie rallied churches to give more, pray more, and do more for reaching people for Christ. As we continue to unite to make her vision a reality in North America today, we can be confident that her legacy will also be ours.

The Journey of a Shoe Box

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Preparing to Receive Shoe Boxes

Even before you have thought about your shoe box, we and our volunteer teams are busy preparing to receive your box through:
• Prayer
• Promotion in sending countries
• Training in receiving countries

Packing Shoe Boxes

You and millions of other people engage in this fun activity.
• Individuals
• Families
• Local Churches
• Other groups, including schools and workplaces

Collecting Shoe Boxes

Now bring your box to us so that we can send it on to a needy child.
• Drop-off points (click here to find the closest drop off location)
• Don’t forget your donation – with your shoe box or processed online (you can donate online here and follow your box)
• Boxes are taken from drop-off/collection points to Processing Centers

Processing Shoe Boxes

Each shoe box is checked to make sure all contents are appropriate for children.
• At Processing Centers, each shoe box is inspected by volunteers
• Boxes must meet the receiving country’s customs requirements
• Consolidation and preparation for shipment takes place

Shipping Shoe Boxes

Hundreds of trucks/lorries and sea containers are now ready to transport your box and millions like it.
• Transit to receiving country
• Customs clearance
• Delivered to local churches and ministry partners

Distributing Shoe Boxes

Finally, your shoe box gets into the hands of a child!
• Lively, fun event for children
• Creative Gospel presentation by local churches and ministry partners, where appropriate
• Shoe boxes are given to children unconditionally
• Wherever appropriate, children are offered a copy of The Greatest Gift of All booklet in their own language by local churches and ministry partners.
• Soon after an OCC distribution event, the local churches and ministry partners may offer The Greatest Journey (TGJ) to the children participating in OCC in many of their communities. You can read more about this program here on our web site.

Honor Begins at Home

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.

While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.

When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God … and to their children?

Filled with action-packed police drama, COURAGEOUS is the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. Riveted moviegoers will once again find themselves laughing, crying, and cheering as they are challenged and inspired by everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children.

Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That’s courageous.

The Mary Hill Davis Offering

Since 1910, Texas Baptists have collected an offering for missions needs in Texas. In 1935, the Texas Offering was named for Mary Hill Davis, president of WMU of Texas and a tireless supporter of Texas missions. Her leadership in various positions spanned the years from 1898 until her death in 1934.

Who was Mary Hill Davis?

Born in Greenville, Georgia, Mary Hill came to Texas in 1870 as a small child. Her parents joined First Baptist Church of Dallas when it was only two years old and she later became a member. She married Dr. F.S. Davis when she was twenty and they had one son, Raymond.

When is the Suggested Week of Prayer for Texas Missions?

The Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas Missions can be highlighted and celebrated all year round. Traditionally, the suggested week of prayer has been the third week in September of each year. Thus this year’s emphasis would be highlighted September 11-18, 2011. However, depending on your church calendar it might be best to host at another time, i.e. August, end of September or even in October. In order to assist Texas Baptist churches the promotional materials are undated so that each church can use the materials at the time that is best for them.

Please seek the Lord, and give if He calls you to give. Whether your gift be financial gift or simply prayer, our missionaries appreciate your support.

Join us in celebrating missions giving as an everyday opportunity all year round.
